THE ART AND BUSINESS OF SPEAKING

As Women We S.H.I.F.T.

As Women We S.H.I.F.T.

As women, we do more before 6 a.m. than most people do all day. We are nurturers, family planners and the budgeters of our household. Yet a great number of us also own a business whether it’s in our homes or a brick and mortar location. We are not only the CEOs of our home, but CEOs in our businesses.

As with any task that we involve ourselves with we must first develop the appropriate mindset needed for that task. I would like to introduce my S.H.I.F.T. model to all the women CEOs who are doing it all!

S-systems. Create systems in your households and business to make things as easy for you as possible. With a system in place your task will be easier at home and your business will run like a well-oiled machine. In business with an effective system it place, things continue to happen if you are traveling or out handling family obligations. Begin with schedules to help you keep track of your deadlines and assign the appropriate people to handle tasks. We are super women, but we can’t do everything. In our business there are lots of great apps to keep our business going as much as we are.

H-Hone in. Women offer so many gifts, qualities and talents, but we need to find ways to monetize the things that already exist with us. How hard is it to juggle 5-7 multilevel marketing businesses? It could be quite difficult to sell makeup, be a travel agent, blog for money, and several different other businesses all at once, right? So let’s concentrate on YOU. If you already write, then expand your writing to articles, e-books, books, etc. Any one of these mediums can generate income for you will what you are already doing. In addition you can hold small, intimate events to expose your newest release; join a conference as a speaker or panelist on your topic and establish yourself as the expert!

I-Invest in yourself. As women we love to think we know everything, but that is just not the case. Did you ever wonder how your neighbor makes such fabulous desserts? Need someone to show you how to market your business? It is always the best idea to collaborate with someone who knows much more than you do! It keeps your knowledge base fresh and up to date, not to mention exposes you to new information that you would not otherwise learn. Find a mentor, hire a coach, but whatever you do invest in yourself.

F-Failure. Women do not accept failure well, and most of us will not take it lying down! This is a phenomenal way to handle that stinky F word. Challenges will come; the budget may get messed up; your husband will lose his suitcase; the meeting coordinator didn’t show up…there are a million things that could go wrong. When they do, learn from the mistakes that caused the ripple and move on.

T-Time Management. For busy mothers, wives and entrepreneurs this word may be foreign. But I promise it is doable. If you are like me you write everything down in your calendar or it goes in your iPhone. I manage my days in 15 minute increments. I have reminders constantly popping up on my phone to remind me of what phone calls I need to make, meetings coming up and so forth. Another great feature I like with my icalendar app is it has color codes! My phone calls, meetings and appointments are all different colors.

Another tool I still use are notebooks. For each entity of my business I have a notebook to keep up with conference call notes, webinars, meeting notes, personal notes and tasks to be completed. This is a way to keep everything separated, but together at the same time. I call them my “business bibles” and I don’t leave home without them!

No matter where you need to apply my S.H.I.F.T. module–home or business–I’m positive that it will help you move from one stage to the next! See you at the top!
